The 2012 Mazda3 compact is now also one of the most fuel efficient, with the addition of SkyActiv technology for 2012. The 2012 Mazda3 is available in both sedan and hatchback forms, also receives some exterior changes for 2012 tweaking its appearance and improve aerodynamics. The front bumper is now softer and “smile” grille has been slightly altered details inside of it.

2012 Mazda3 Engine

Under the hood, the two engine options from the previous year return. The 148-horsepower, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder is the base engine for the sedan, and is associated with a five-speed manual gearbox or automatic. The large 167-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder is the base engine in the sedan and an update for the sedan. It comes with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic. The smaller engine returns 24 to 25 mpg city and 33 mpg on the highway, while the four-cylinder slots 2.5 liters in just under that at 20-22 mpg/city and 28 to 29 mpg/highway.

The 2012 Mazda3, SkyActiv engine,  the 155-horsepower, with 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivers more power and torque than the base engine and better fuel economy too. SkyActiv actually refers to a comprehensive set of technologies that joins the Mazda Mazda3, including a pair of re-calibrated transmissions that helps push the Mazda3 gas mileage all the way to 27 to 28 miles per gallon in the city and 39-40 mpg on the highway. These figures are among the best in the compact class has to offer.

2012 Mazda3 Interior

In the interior, the 2012 Mazda3 adds decorative pieces of silver to many of the points of contact in the cockpit and a change from red to white backlight LCD dashboard. Standard interior features include an auxiliary audio jack, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power windows and audio controls on the steering wheel ( hatchback versions come with more standard equipment ). The Mazda3 can also be equipped with push button start, air conditioning, sunroof, Bluetooth ® connectivity, navigation system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an advanced Bose sound system.

2012 Mazda3 Safety

Both the sedan and hatchback version of the 2012 Mazda3 took home the awards Top Safety Pick by the IIHS.  The 2012 Mazda3, safety features include anti-lock brakes, the electronic stability control and the six airbags.
