2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee returns with a few lifestyle changes and some new developments under the skin too. Outside, the changes for 2014 are minor. Grand Cherokee bumper has been slightly increased, fog shrinks a bit, and the front grill has dialed back a bit. Keeping up with the times, the LED daytime running lights are now standard housings and fog lights have grown. Mechanical changes are highlighted by a new eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing five and six automatic outgoing speeds and improves efficiency and a newly available diesel engine. The base engine remains at 290-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 by 260 pounds -feet of torque. Also available is 360-horsepower, 5.7-liter V-8 that makes 390 pounds -feet of torque with cylinder deactivation to improve fuel economy. Rounding out engine options is 240-horsepower, 3.0-liter turbo diesel V-6, making a more than generous 420 pounds -feet of torque. The rear-wheel drive is standard, but those looking for a larger capacity Grand Cherokee can choose between three drive systems in four different wheels.
The new eight-speed transmission has improved fuel economy of 17/25 mpg city/highway mpg with the base V-6 and 14/22 with a V8. Topping the line is the diesel engine, which pushes the fuel economy all the way up to 22/30 mpg city/highway for the RWD models.
