The 2015 BMW X4 is a completely new model. BMW stands in answering questions nobody asked. First there was the X6, a large intersection, squatting with coupe like lines that baffled some people. BMW calls it a “sport activity vehicle” a tacit acknowledgment that the X6, unlike the 2015 BMW X3 and 2015 BMW X5 more practical, useful sacrifices like that. The 2015 BMW X4 take the same subject in a more affordable package less. Like most design inspiration, the 2015 BMW X4 is more about style riding high utility. Is there a market for fashion, limited use crossover? BMW thinks so. The president of the company says the X models represent almost a third of the sales of the BMW brand. Buyers might lower the 2015 BMW X4 even better.
The 2015 BMW X4 will share a platform with the 2015 BMW X3, but lower and wider sit 1.5 inches. A long hood, short overhangs and a fastback roofline style X4 give a dynamic posture, even while borrowing from high doors and back-end bulbous BMW X6. The 2015 BMW X4 xDrive28i base model uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder rated at 240 horsepower, while the xDrive35i gets a turbo six-cylinder 300 hp. Both models get an automatic transmission standard eight-speed manual transmission with paddles and AWD. BMW says the xDrive28i accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 6 seconds. The xDrive35i requires only 5.2 seconds. A sport suspension and stability control promise of performance-oriented expected levels of manageability of BMW.
Inside, the 2015 BMW X4 will offer about 18 cubic feet of storage behind the rear seat and 49.4 cubic feet when folded. The rear bench seats three passengers and folds into a versatile configuration 40/20/40. A power liftgate is standard and can be equipped with a hands free function that opens when you slide your foot under a sensor. Wrapped in the optional navigation system and iDrive infotainment controller is a suite of applications for smart phones connected including Pandora, TuneIn and Amazon Cloud Player. Driver aids and optional safety features include active cruise control, lane departure warning, rear view camera with 360 degree view and an automatic parallel parking.
On the one hand, the movement of 2015 BMW X6 to a smaller seems cynical, an attempt to squeeze dry a segment that is neither SUV or four-door “coupe”. Maybe that’s why the automaker has called 2015 BMW X6 and 2015 BMW X4 concepts as “sports car”. The 2013 Range Rover Evoque has found success as a compact luxury crossover, so no reason to think that BMW will not find a hungry market more windswept, X3 sport-minded. Moreover, the BMW 3 Series in its various forms (cars, Gran Turismo) non-delivery and a taste beyond moderate off-pavement capability.
