A manual transmission 7-speed S-tronic automatic is optional on the coupe and standard on the S5 Cabriolet. The 2013 Audi RS 5 has a 450-horsepower, 4.2-liter V-8 engine generating 317 pounds-feet of torque. The V-8 breathes through a sports exhaust system, and is combined with a manual gearbox, 7 speed S-tronic automatic with launch control, a new self-locking center differential crown-gear, and sports differential rear with torque vectoring. According to Audi, acceleration to 60 mph takes 4.5 seconds, and the RS 5 can reach a top speed of 174 mph.

Both the 2013 Audi S5 and 2013 Audi RS 5 are equipped with frontal airbags and side for front seat occupants, including knee airbags impact. Side airbags curtain are included only on coupes. In addition, Audi installs a set of 4 wheels, ventilated disc brakes with Brake Assist (includes 8-piston calipers on Audi RS 5 models), traction control and stability control (with Sport mode Audi RS 5).
